THE INVITATION
Winter may seem to offer little but cold, darkness, and emptiness—a season of scarcity, dormancy, and death. Nature coils and withdraws into herself. The ancestors shed their leaves, the air loses its warmth, and the days grow shorter.
As a Celtic-Latino who lives on the edge of the north east shores of Scotland, I have spent the past decade re-courting my relationship with Winter. I began to wholeheartedly accept the invitation of this season, and what I discovered was that the act of Wintering—an intentional retreat into stillness and reflection— provided me with the essential gifts I needed for my next cycle of becoming.
Just as a fallow field gathers nutrients, it provides a time of deep regeneration. When we slow down, shed the excess, remove the noise, and enter into a practice of deep listening; we make space for insights from within the subtle field of our being to rise to the surface of our awareness. All that has not yet been realised, finds its way to us, through our Winter dreaming. Where stillness and silence allows us to gather the strength and wisdom we need to nourish our dreams.
Winter’s rest prepares us for Spring’s abundance.
Stripped of foliage, the trees reveal their elegant architecture. The landscape, reduced to its bare bones, lays everything out in the open. As we too, strip down to our essence in surrender and trust, of the space being created. It is through this gesture, we find clarity to re-pattern ourselves; to weave our dreams from the whispering threads of our yearnings, forever guiding us to make something from what truly matters.
Winter asks us to stand on the edge of our comfort zones, calls our descent into the void of potentiality, and grants us passage through the veil between what is known and what rests within the mystery. The darkness gives us the contrast we need to appreciate the light. It teaches us that absence and presence, taking and giving, are all part of the same cycle of renewal. And perhaps the most potent medicine of this season, is found in rekindling our faith. Knowing that even in the bleakest times, life persists below the frozen Earth, re-imagining itself over and over again.
Winter also teaches us that gifts and lessons often arrive in unexpected forms. What seems to be falling away from us—whether relationships, opportunities, or aspects of ourselves—returns as a new constellation, ready to guide and serve us in ways we cannot yet see, or understand. Each time I offer myself fully to the medicine of this season, I am both pleasantly surprised and profoundly moved by what emerges from within. Spaciousness, you see, is fertile ground for new perspectives to sprout. In the quiet of Winter, seeds of insight bloom into creative visions, nourishing us with renewed possibilities and a deep sense of inner peace.
We are currently held in the darkest dark of the year, as we approach the threshold of Winter Solstice on December 21st. Known as the shortest day and longest night, before the Sun rebirths itself and gradually adorns our days with more light. During this transition, time, space, boundaries-dissolve and shift, and we are reminded of our own sacred rhythms, mirrored in the world around us.
And so, I carry this prayer for the collective: that we may each find the courage to enter the void with intention, so that we may emerge from our cocoons of transformation, basking in the light of our own blessed truth.

.:.o.:.o.:.o.:.o.:.o.:.o.:. The Moon tilts, the land leans to pause. The night lingers, like slow exhales over fields of frost. Our hearts lay open, to skies stretched wide, patiently waiting. The trees, bare and unashamed, hold themselves defiantly in the gathering dark. Silent trust ushers forth our next breath whilst life stirs beneath the frozen Earth, as a quiet promise. And you — Cloaked in the same dark, held by the same rhythm. May you feel the tenderness and weighted treasure of this season, welcoming you with the gift of rest to nourish your Winter dreaming. May you listen - when the first crack of dawn spills gold on the horizon, calling you back to the small and precious miracle of your body. May you accept this pilgrimage in the way hope flickers, like a match struck in shadow, ignited by unwavering nights. May our movements be intentional grounded and gradual, just as lands reimagine themselves slowly, ever-faithfully, in cyclical timing. May we not rush this turning but instead, allow the light find its way. .:.o.:.o.:.o.:.o.:.o.:.o.:.
